Trending Now: Autumn Winter Beauty Trends

September calls for a brand new season of trends, and for us that means a new set of beauty rules. But while most of us will stick to the basics during our everyday routines, it’s often a treat to nod to the trends, even in a small and subtle way. Whether that’s a new shade for your mani, or a different spin on your classic blow dry. So here’s our guide to the autumnal beauty trends that are easy to incorporate, effortless to undertake and what we expect to see racing down Oxford Street this Autumn…

Wellness Skin

Starting with a good base, is the key to beautiful skin, and so skincare prep is key. British Vogue coined the phrase ‘wellness face’, after spying at Stella McCartney and Victoria Beckham, where the skincare was taken very seriously backstage. Many of our skincare brands are focused on wellness – think happy mind, happy skin. ‘Stress plays a huge factor in how our skin performs’, says Wild Source Apothecary founder, Kate Roath, ‘when I’m stressed it’s inevitable that signs will start to show on my face.’ Bumps, rashes, redness and flare-ups, are all different forms of inflammation, caused when our stress hormone, cortisol, is raised. Kate advises everyone to take mindful moments during their skincare regime, ‘Just a few minutes every morning and evening while cleansing, taking deep breaths and thinking about your motions while being present, will honestly do you, your wellbeing and your skin the world of good’, says Kate. Wild Source Apothecary Facial Rollers, from £26 and Gua Sha Tools, from £24 are an amazing away to relax facial muscles and engage the mind.

Disco Glam Waves

As party season starts to approach – can we really say the C word now? That’s Christmas, obviously. Getting glam and having a look to take to your next ‘do is essential. So break away from your usual blow dry and opt for a disco glam wave. At The Blonds AW19 show glamorous models showcased a nod to Hollywood, ‘Although mousse sounds old fashioned, it’s key for holding looks like this in place’, says Co-Founder of Four London, Charlie Double. ‘Think of the R+CO’s Aircraft Pomade Mousse, £24, as your structural base for building something sturdy and long-lasting’. For something a little slicker as seen at Halpern, Double recommends starting with Colour Wow’s Pop & Lock, £18.50, high gloss serum. Blow drying, then using the ghd Curve Classic Wave Wand, £129, to create the S wave. ‘The oval shape to the iron creates beautiful kinks effortlessly. Make sure you wrap hair around the barrel in the same direction, to create unity.’

Accessory Addict

There’s no denying 2019 has welcomed the return of hair accessories and we couldn’t be happier. Reliving our inner Blair Waldorf has also helped in prolonging hair colour appointments and even post-poning our six week cut. Follow the catwalk where designers such as Balmain, Simone Rocha, Chanel and Versace went for clips, bands and brooches in the masses. The only advise hairstylists could give- more is never enough! So when in doubt, add one more. Cali Tiger Hair Clips, from £18.

Dewy Everything

Glossy highlights might feel like a summer thing, but bringing them into your autumnal beauty look will add an instant freshness. While you can load up on smokey eyes, perfect a matte base or bring out your best red lip, a glossy accent will add a modern statement. At Prabal Gurung skin was given a cashmere finish with glossy lips softening the look, and at Erdem matte black liner liner flicks were complemented with a clear lipgloss. Jillian Dempsey Lid and Cheek Tints, £26.50 each, are an easy way to play into this trend, simply slick them on and go!

Metallica

Next time you’re thinking of a mani-update remember this. Metallics are major! That’s why models were sent racing down the catwalk with shimmering hues of bronze, rose gold and platinum. Depending on how much time you’re willing to get creative, we’ve got all the inspo you need. Those that are time poor should opt for two shiny coats of your favourite chrome, as seen at Cividini. If minimalistic nail art is more your vibe try the Preen look, clean nails were given golden cuticle moons, get the look with Kure Bazaar Nail Varnish Or Pur, £15 and the Final Touch Top Coat, £15. Or revive Halpern’s sand-in-a-bottle layers where metallic shades ranging from graphite to silver, were layered in horizontal stripes.

Get Low

While high chignons and ponytails have had their moment – thank you Ariana Grande- getting low is now the trendiest way to tie back your hair. As seen at Ralph Lauren, Oscar de la Renta and Tory Burch, there’s pros to this low down do. Effortless, tick. Profile enhancing, tick. And well, on trend, tick! Use the Manta Brush, £25 to detangle and then work all hair back into the nape of the neck. ‘Fine hair will look best with a ponytail or small chignon, whereas thicker hairstyles should opt for a braided beauty’ says Co-Founder of Four London Maleeka Robb. A little dollop of R+Co’s Badlands Dry Shampoo Paste, £23 will help add grit so that your style stays in place for longer.
